The story
About Kodak
Kodak got its name in 1892. Postmaster Harvey N. Underwood heard about the new Kodak camera, thought it was a name people would easily remember and spell, and wrote George Eastman for permission to use it. Eastman said yes.
The Treaty of Dumplin Creek was signed in this area on June 10, 1785, at Major Hugh Henry's fort, between the State of Franklin and the Cherokee. A state marker stands near one spot where it may have happened.
Kodak sits along State Routes 139 and 66 just south of I-40, and a good part of it near exit 407 has been annexed into Sevierville since the 1990s.
