The story
About Boyds Creek
Boyds Creek is an unincorporated community in Sevier County. It takes its name from a small creek that flows south into the French Broad River. The creek is said to be named for a Virginia trader who was killed by Cherokee, with his body thrown into the water.
In 1780 the Battle of Boyd's Creek was fought here between settlers and Cherokee angry at settlers moving onto their hunting land. That was one of the fights that led to the Treaty of Dumplin Creek in 1785.
