The story
About Mascot
The Mascot community was first reported around 1796, when settler John Erwin bought 150 acres from the government. A ford on the Holston River known as Saylor's Ford was an early center of settlement. In 1838 Dr. George Arnold built a Georgian style house called Chesterfield on Old Rutledge Pike, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places.
A railroad came through in 1884, and a post office opened under the name Meek. By 1887 a newspaper listed Mascot as the name of the railroad station near the resort at Lea Springs. About 2,800 people lived here at the 2020 census.
