The story

About Farragut

Farragut was first known as Campbell's Station, after the fort and stagecoach stop Captain David Campbell built in 1787. The brick Campbell's Station Inn went up in 1810 and still stands on Kingston Pike within sight of Town Hall. The Civil War Battle of Campbell's Station was fought here on November 16, 1863.

The town is named for Union Admiral David Farragut, who was born at Campbell's Station in 1801. Nearby, the historic village of Concord was founded in 1854 on the Tennessee River and was a busy shipping point for Tennessee marble in the late 1800s.

Farragut is mostly in Knox County with a small piece in Loudon County. About 23,500 people lived here at the 2020 census.
