The story

About Gibbs

The area is officially called Harbison Crossroads on state and county maps, but most people call it Gibbs. James Harbison, a Revolutionary War veteran, settled here in the 1790s and ran a toll gate where Emory Road meets Tazewell Pike. Nicholas Gibbs settled nearby in a log cabin, and his name later took over as the everyday name of the area.

That is why the local public schools are Gibbs Elementary, Gibbs Middle and Gibbs High. The community is unincorporated and sits about ten miles northeast of Knoxville.
