The story
About Halls
Halls Crossroads, known locally as Halls, is named for the Thomas Hall family. Thomas Hall came to the valley around 1796 from Orange County, North Carolina. He had been captured by the British at the Siege of Charleston during the Revolutionary War, and the government gave him land for his service. He settled on the north side of Black Oak Ridge.
The crossroads sits on Emory Road, which began in 1785 when the North Carolina legislature told militiamen to clear a wagon road toward Nashville. Today Halls is a northern suburb of Knoxville with about 10,300 people.
