The story

About Karns

Karns was once called Beaver Ridge. In 1913 the community built its first high school and named it for Professor Thomas Conner Karns, the first Superintendent of Public Instruction for Knox County. In the 1950s residents voted to make Karns the official name in place of Beaver Ridge, also called Byington.

Karns is an unincorporated community about eleven miles northwest of downtown Knoxville, with about 3,500 people in the 2020 census.
