The story

About Chuckey

Chuckey is an unincorporated community on the Nolichucky River, which gives it its name. Its post office has the ZIP code 37641. The old East Tennessee and Virginia Railroad had a station here, and the brick depot built by the Southern Railway in 1906 is on the National Register of Historic Places, along with the Earnest Farms Historic District, where several farms date back to the first settlement in the 1700s.

Nearby stands Glaze Hall, an ell shaped brick mansion built between 1843 and 1849 by Lawrence Glaze Jr. on a rise above the river, with bricks fired by hand on the farm. In the 1890s and early 1900s Chuckey was also home to aviation pioneer Edward Chalmers Huffaker.
